The arctic sea ice is disappearing and an ice free arctic predicted for the summer of 2017.

The 2016 Arctic sea ice minimum is the second lowest minimum extent on the satellite record, 4.14 million square kilometers (1.60 million square miles). Here the sea ice changes from day to day showing a running 3-day minimum sea ice concentration in the region where the concentration is greater than 15%. The blueish white color of the sea ice is derived from a 3-day running minimum of the AMSR2 89 GHz brightness temperature.
